What services does Ohio Alleycat Resource offer?
OAR performs high-quality, low-cost spay/neuter surgeries conducted by licensed veterinary staff. In addition to spay/neuter, we offer annual vaccines, flea treatment, and microchipping for our patients during surgery apppointments. We are not a full-service veterinary or vaccine clinic, and limit our focus to spay/neuter services in order to keep prices low for our clients. We do not perform declaw surgeries. Please consult your veterinarian if your cat is ill or other services are needed. OAR also assists those caring for feral (wild) cats by providing humane traps for transport to our spay/neuter clinic, as well as trapping advice.

How does the transport work?
First, contact our clinic (513-871-0185) to schedule a convenient Neuterville Express transport or walk-in appointment. Bring your cat in a carrier to your selected transport location, where you will complete a surgery admission form, provide payment, and send your cat to our clinic via our transport van. After an overnight stay, your cat will be checked by our medical team, and returned to the drop-off location via our transport service.

Can’t make your preferred transport date?
Appointments are accepted Tuesday-Friday at our clinic, located near the intersection of I-71 and Red Bank Rd. Can you spay my cat in heat or nursing? Cats in heat or pregnant can be safely spayed at our clinic at no extra charge. It is recommended to wait 2-3 weeks after a mother has weaned her kittens before bringing her in for surgery.

What is the minimum age for surgery?
Kittens must be at least 8 weeks old and 2.2 pounds for surgery. Pediatric patients bounce back from surgery very quickly. Cats generally become sexually mature at six months of age. Spaying younger cats can help end the cycle of overpopulation.

What are the Pre-Op Instructions?
*Cats must be in good health – no coughing, sneezing, diarrhea, etc.
*Please do not allow cats older than 4 months to eat after midnight the evening before surgery. Water is OK.
*All cats must be in a carrier or secure box. Feral cats must be in a live trap. Traps are available with a deposit from the clinic.
*Payment is due at drop-off. The clinic accepts cash and checks.

Can you help me catch my stray/feral cat, and find it a home?
Due to limited resources, OAR personnel are unable to come to your location and trap cats. However, we do lend out traps with refundable deposit, and conduct biweekly classes on trap-neuter-return for feral cats. Call the clinic for more information. Due to space constraints, we are unfortunately unable to accept stray cats into our organization for adoption.

Why spay/neuter?
When you spay or neuter your pet, you make a commitment not only to the health and wellness of your cat or dog, but also to the welfare of companion animals in your community as a whole. This routine medical procedure helps control pet overpopulation while also contributing to the prevention of medical and behavioral problems. Spaying and neutering your pet will allow your pet a happier and healthier life.
*More than 18,000 animals are euthanized in Greater Cincinnati annually due to lack of homes.
*Neutering cats will result in decreased roaming and fighting, and decrease the likelihood of spraying.
*Spay/neuter can reduce the occurrence of certain cancers and provide a longer, healthier life
*Spaying eliminating undesirable behaviors associated with the heat cycle such as howling and spraying.
*Spay/neuter will not make your pet fat and lazy.
